Bečići sits in the middle of Montenegro's most sightseeing-rich stretch of coast, so you can base yourself on the beach and reach a walled Venetian town, a photogenic islet or a UNESCO bay in well under an hour. Here are the best day trips, ordered from the doorstep outward. For the full detail see our day-trips guide.
Budva Old Town — the walkable one
About 3 km up the coast, Budva Old Town is the easiest trip of all: a walled medieval old town of marble lanes, churches and a seaward citadel. The old town is free to wander; the Citadela fortress costs about €3.50 (cash) for its walls, small maritime museum and the best sea view. You can walk there along the seaside promenade, or take a short bus, taxi or summer boat. Half a day is plenty — pair it with a swim and a wander of the Riviera's liveliest town.
Sveti Stefan — the iconic islet
About 5 km south is Sveti Stefan, the fortified islet joined to the shore by a causeway — Montenegro's most photographed view. The islet itself is a private resort, but the classic vista is from the coast road and the beaches just above it. A short drive, taxi or bus ride, and an easy half-day.
The Bay of Kotor & Perast — the UNESCO showpiece
Roughly 30–40 minutes up the coast (Kotor town is about 25 km; allow extra in peak-summer traffic, which builds around the bay), the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor is a fjord-like inlet ringed by mountains. Explore the walled city of Kotor — free to wander, though the climb up the city walls to the San Giovanni fortress costs €15 in summer (May–September, cash only; generally free off-season) and rewards you with the classic view over the bay — and the baroque town of Perast, with boat trips out to the islands of Our Lady of the Rocks and St George. Give it a full day (or a relaxed half), easily done by car, bus, taxi or organised tour along the Adriatic coast road.
Inland: Lovćen, Skadar Lake & Ostrog — the big days out
For the mountains and hinterland, three full-day trips reward the drive:
- Lovćen National Park — the peaks above Kotor, crowned by the Njegoš Mausoleum.
- Skadar Lake National Park — spread across the largest lake in the Balkans by surface area (a seasonally shifting 370–530 km² on the Montenegro–Albania border), a birdwatching haven of lily-covered water and island monasteries.
- Ostrog Monastery — a working monastery carved into a near-vertical cliff in the 1600s, dedicated to St. Basil of Ostrog. It's Montenegro's most-visited pilgrimage site, drawing over a million visitors a year of every faith.
Each is best given a full day, on a guided tour or by car.
Planning your trips
The nearest sights — Budva and Sveti Stefan — each fit into a half day; the Bay of Kotor with Perast and the inland trio deserve a full day each. A rental car gives you the most freedom, but organised tours cover all the big ones from the resort. See our things to do for more, and our practical info for getting around.
