About Bečići

The beach, the resort hotels, and the seaside promenade that make this corner of the Budva Riviera one of Montenegro's best-known summer destinations.

What Bečići Is

Bečići (Cyrillic: Бечићи) is a coastal resort town on the Budva Riviera, on Montenegro's Adriatic coast in Budva Municipality, about 3 km southeast of Budva. It sits on a wide bay backed by hills, with a long beach curving along the shore and resort hotels rising just behind it.

The town is defined by its beach — a roughly 2 km sweep of fine sand and gravel that is one of the most famous in Montenegro — and by the seaside promenade that runs along the water, linking Budva to the north with the fishing village of Rafailovići to the south. In summer it is a straightforward beach holiday: sun, sea, resorts, and easy trips along the coast.

Geography

Bečići lies on a bay of the Budva Riviera, the stretch of Adriatic coast around Budva that holds many of Montenegro's best-known beaches. The town runs along the shore at the foot of low hills, with the beach and promenade at sea level and the resort hotels stacked just behind.

The beach itself connects, via the coastal path, to Budva and its walled old town to the north, and to the fishing village of Rafailovići and the quieter cove of Kamenovo to the south. Beyond the immediate coast, the Riviera opens onto Sveti Stefan, the Bay of Kotor, and the mountains inland.

For ideas beyond the beach, see our day trips guide, and our sights guide for the beaches and viewpoints nearby.

The Beach

Bečići Beach is the reason most people come — a long, gently curving strand of fine sand and small gravel, lined with sunbeds and umbrellas in season and backed by hotel terraces and cafés. It is one of the most celebrated beaches on the Montenegrin coast, and is often said to have won a prize for its sand at a Paris exhibition in the 1930s — a story worth taking with a pinch of salt, but one that speaks to its long-standing reputation.

The seafront promenade runs the length of the beach and continues around the coast, so the beach doubles as the town's main thoroughfare: a flat, walkable strip that ties Bečići to Budva in one direction and Rafailovići in the other. For the food along it, see our restaurants guide, and for evenings, our nightlife guide.

History & Name

Bečići takes its name (Cyrillic Бечићи) from a local family name — the fuller story is in our name-origin guide. Long a small coastal settlement, it grew over the twentieth century into one of Montenegro's leading beach resorts, as large hotels went up along its famous sand.

Today Bečići is firmly part of the Budva Riviera's summer tourism, its identity built around the beach, the promenade and the resorts rather than any single monument. The real history to explore here is next door in Budva's walled old town and at Sveti Stefan, both an easy trip away.

Climate

Bečići has a Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The Adriatic is warm and swimmable from roughly June to September, with July and August the hottest and busiest. Late spring and early autumn are milder and quieter, and still pleasant for the beach and the coast.

Why Choose Bečići

Travellers often weigh Bečići against Budva itself, or against Sveti Stefan. Bečići's particular strengths are these:

  • One of Montenegro's best beaches. A long, sandy strand with room to spread out, right in front of the hotels.
  • A walkable seafront. The promenade links Bečići to Budva Old Town in one direction and Rafailovići in the other — flat, easy, and made for evening strolls.
  • Resort comfort with Budva next door. Beachfront hotels and a relaxed pace, with Budva's old town and nightlife a short walk or drive away.
  • A base for the Riviera. Sveti Stefan, the Bay of Kotor, Lovćen and Skadar Lake are all within reach — see our day trips guide.
